Do You Know the Way to San Jose?

So, I’m leaving on a jet plane.  On Thursday.

My question for you, O Internet, is this:  can I wear an underwire bra through the airport screening or will the metal set off the alarms and cause me to miss my plane because I’m being strip-searched and detained for questioning?

Seriously.  I need to know.

    It never catches mine.

I never leave home without an underwire, and they’ve never questioned me about it. But, you know, no promises.

I think you’d be safe wearing one– I didn’t have any trouble!

Do it all the time, never a problem,

Yes you can. Just don’t wear boots with metal in the base.

It should be pretty safe. Wouldn’t that be embarrassing if it did set off the alarms though…I can’t even imagine…

That’s the only kind I wear and I haven’t had a problem. Shoes on the other hand are apparently a big deal. It used to be you couldn’t wear “dress” shoes because of metal inside (supposedly). Now every time I or my husband travels we have been made to remove every type of shoe. The last time we traveled (last July) my KIDS had to take off their shoes! I won’t even go into that nightmare. My advice: socks (so your feet don’t touch the nasty floor from 1 zillion other shoeless/sockless people) with slip on shoes or tennis shoes. Then you can get them off and back on fast. Seriously, it is almost not worth the hassle to travel these days! You probably already know this. It’s not lke you live away from society. Sorry, I get rant crazy when thinking about traveling. I guess I’m gearing up for the summer trip back home already. Tammie

Slip on tennis shoes….in case that wasn’t clear. Sheesh…back away from the computer Tammie…you are getting far to worked up! haha

I had no problems in January or March. It’s all about THE LIQUIDS! PRESENT YOUR LIQUIDS!

See now, here are the situations that I need to consider by being small chested… I figure if I get free from responsibilies for a few days, my chest should be too. Of course I would say the same thing if I were at home too…

I think it depends on the bra size. j/k :-) One of the ladies at Lane Bryant said she set off the alarm with her underwire. They just waved the hand wand around her.

This big-busted mama only wears underwires, and my bra has never set off the alarms. My shoes are different story, however. Stupid leather mules which are so easy to slip off and on set of the alarms every time!

Underwire is fine. I always set off the alarms as my bangles can’t come off. Sigh. In fact, if they don’t go off, I usually tell them to check their equipment. You will have an amazing time! We will want to hear all, don’t forget.

That’s funny. I would think that would have made BIG NEWS if that were the case. Aren’t most underwires today plastic, anyway? I only know that because a few have poked through :)

    Happy Landings :)

Mel, mine set off the alarms every single time. So do the rivets in my jeans and the soles of my shoes.

Have fun! Did I miss why you were going to San Jose?

I never wear underwire, but I know the metal plate and 13 screws in my ankle don’t set off the detector. For whatever that’s worth.
