Product Review: Kellogg’s Froot Loops with added fiber

Not long ago, a box arrived full of cereal.  My kids were pretty impressed by the Froot Loops and Apple Jacks in the box.  My husband was, too.  In fact, he ate most of the Apple Jacks (with fiber added) by himself.  He loves Apple Jacks and reported that the fiber barely made any difference in taste.

(You can check out the Kellogg’s Nutrition info here.)

My kids were excited to participate in a taste test comparing the “old” Froot Loops (without added fiber) and the “new” Froot Loops (with added fiber).  One of my teenagers is particularly picky and can always tell when I’ve varied an ingredient in any recipe.  He failed the taste test–he said, “There is virtually no difference.”

None of my kids could tell any difference between the two varieties of Froot Loops, not my 7-year old, not my 11-year old and not my 16-year olds.  I detected a little difference in texture but that’s because I was trying to find a difference.

I don’t usually buy sugary cereal, but occasionally, I find some on sale and get some for the kids.  They like to eat it as a snack–and so does my husband.

I’d rather they get a little fiber with their cereal.  These new varieties with fiber added are certainly not a health food, but they are an improvement–instead of getting less than a gram of fiber per serving, they get 3 grams of fiber per serving.

If your kids like these kind of cereals, you may be glad to know that Kellogg’s is adding some fiber.

Kellogg’s also has a lot of information on their website.  Check it out here.

You should know this:  I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Kellogg’s and received boxes of Froot Loops and Apple Jacks and a gift certificate to thank me for taking the time to participate.
