this one made me want to drop a tear myself! amazing how our children bring back memories once forgotten.
i have a 3 year old daughter who puts her cold feet on me in bed, too. i won’t ever ask her to move her feet again.

My daughter is 6. Yesterday a friend commented that she didn’t know I had small children, she thought that mine were older. Mine are 20, 17, 9 and 6. I am 45. Those years went so fast with my boys. I cling to every moment of childhood with them. What a beautiful post.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEL! In my hurry to type I first typed Borthday, which sounds cool (gross-cool)! I hope Grace and the boys realise they have a very loving and understand and WONDERFUL Mom, who’ll always be there for them, no matter how far and away they travel and that she will always value their tears and their smiles and cherish them! Those unabashed tears you were speaking of? The ones that flow effortlessly from your daughter’s eyes?

My guess is that you will experience that same thing at the moments when you least expect: sixth grade graduation… her first heartbreak…everyday you realize that in a few short months, she will be leaving your home for college..seeing her wedding dress..holding her babies…

My oldest beloved son is going to college in six short months and in between work, school and friends, he isn’t home very often. But the other night he came in where I was sitting and curled up on my lap– as much as a 18 year old 5’7″ boy can–and asked me to rub his head. I had the flashback of when he was two and had an earache and laid on my lap. I couldn’t hold it back. The tears poured out and I went through 5 tissues. It happens when I least expect it and it is powerful. Yet I know these tears are coming from a heart that is full. What more can you ask for?

You can go through it all again with granddaughters – and possibly grandsons too, but I only have granddaughters.

Now my oldest granddaughter is 12 and I am an old grandma who wears uncool shoes.

She still loves me, but it’s quick hugs before she’s off living her own life and staying at my house is boring. It breaks my heart to remember the fun we had together when she was five.

Happy Birthday! And I’m envious you’ve seen all the nominated movies! I’ve only seen Juno (I thought it was just ok) and I really want to see No Country for Old Men but am not sure if it will be too stressful? I’m a wimp.
