Mel,

I just read all seven Harry Potter books in about 2.5 weeks. :-)

I was part way through Alan Jacobs The Narnian, detoured through a few of his moral essays in another volume, and read his assertion that the Potter books were better written than the Narnia ones, and it was ok for Christians to read them. Because my nephew has been reading them, and no one else in the family has, I thought someone should. So I did.
I prefer the world of Narnia to the world of Rowlings. Rowlings' world gets very dark. She's better at portraying darkness than light. I feel a parent should read them if their children are reading them. Other than that, I wouldn't really recommend it. She is a good story teller, but a dark one.

She's an Episcopalian. Or is it Anglican? Don't these U.S. reporters know the difference?!!! I don't think there Episcopalians in Edinburgh, where she's lived as she's written the novels.

Alistair Adversaria does have a good exposition on, and defense of her series. She does promote the value of a strong stable family unit. (Her mother died of MS when she was about 14, so she puts a high value on the mother-child bond, which is a major element of the books.)

Suddenly, it seems very obvious why I like to read your blogs, aside from the weight successes that inspire me. Glad you shared!

I have found a new pet peeve: people who INSIST that their particular Starbucks drink DOESN'T TASTE LIKE COFFEE AT ALL. If there is a speck of coffee in the drink, then PLEASE hear me: no matter how much crap you throw in over it, I can still taste the coffee.

And I will not like it. Trust me in this.

And if I were Queen of Swimwear, this would be my rule: women over 40 should not wear two piece bathing suits unless they are naturally slim and/or look like the 50 year old lady in the Bowflex commercial. If your belly has the consistency of a waterbed (like mine) then let's burn the bikini forever.

On the other hand, I am enamored with my ipod! And I make it a point to get my eyebrows waxed and buy cheap purses from street vendors when I get to go to Manhattan. Last summer I bought a $20 Prada purse off the street and it remains my favorite.

Harry Potter just found it's way into my home through my 13 year old. He started with the first book and has been reading until 2 in the morning every night for the past 8 days. It's a miracle.

I usually don't comment on lists like these...because it is usually such a boring "me too" or "not me.." This time it was just amusing to me that two things on your list are things that I just did for the first time.

After I took the kids to the new Harry Potter movie, I decided that I wanted to read the books. So, I am not on the last one like everyone else, but I am now in the middle of the third one. I am enjoying it!

Last week I had my eyebrows waxed for the first time, after saying that I NEVER would. I am very happy with the results, and am planning to do it whenever it is necessary again. It wasn't nearly as bad as I imagined.

I've never worn a two-piece either.
I gave up on HP book after the first few.
I didn't start drinking coffee until my fifties. I still don't drink that much. And if SB is what you go by as a standard, you probably never will drink coffee. :)

I haven't read the HP books either. I tried several times, at the behest of my daughter but, dare I say, I just couldn't get hooked. I used to be a hairstylist so I've had my brows waxed, but never had to pay. It hurts less when you're not paying. I don't drink. I tried wearing a two piece once. I'm with you on the "Mom" thing and have even uttered an absentminded "what?" when out at the store, alone. Starbucks scares me. I know they try to place me in GenX (1970) on some of the charts, but I'm not feeling it. Very cool random facts.

I wasn't going to read Harry Potter, either. Then husband started reading the first book out loud to me and I realized they are something special.

Harry Potter will be classic forever. You're missing something magical.
