I think "plopping" just goes with the territory. There is no use having anything nice for years and years...
For me, it comes down to choosing what to get upset over...broken beds are easier to deal with than say, broken limbs....

Hmm, would it help to use slightly thicker pieces of wood? The idea of a plywood sheet over the top is also a good one.

well, if anyone had a reason you did! but you didn't so, I don't think anyone else should, either, in an act of frustration! or whatever it was!

My daughter (yes girls do it too) kept breaking her bed in the same way. We called in a handy man and here is what he did. He screwed the slats in place on either end, not to tight though. Then he cut a piece of plywood to fit over them. Now we can stand on it without a problem! Who'd a thunk it?

We finally gave up on boys keeping beds intact, and now, we put the springs and matresses directly on the floor. :(

I am green with envy...that you have a Value Village. We live in VA, but moved here from Ak, where Value Village RULED. I miss the REAL bargains....Here, in te DC area, it's a bargain if you don't need a 2nd mortgage when you go clothes shopping.
